Want to know how to be a good dad? Go green.
Today’s children are very environmentally conscious so showing an interest in things they are interested in, such as global warming, is always a good way to be better father. If you are father struggling to bond with your teenage daughter or son try talking them about green issues. Get them involved in recycling and set a project to try and reduce electricity usage in the house by switching of lights and electrical appliances. You could even offer then an incentive of a percentage of any money dave don the electricity bill!
Or how about take them on an eco-friendly holiday?
But be warned that there is no sense talking to your kids about environmental issues if you do not take it seriously. Kids can easily recognize hypocrites. They will nod in agreement with you only to please you but then ignore all of your advice and teachings if they think you are a hypocrite.
There is an old saying that we only are renting the world for a little while from its true owners – our children. The choices we make today about our lifestyles and our consumer habits can directly impact many future generations. So you can help your children and be a better parent by not only bringing up topics to talk about in environmental issues, but by also leading by example.
