About to become a father for the first time ? Then one way to soften the shock of endless nappies and sleepless nights is to throw a dadchelor party.
The latest thing in the U.S. and Canada for new dads are male baby showers. If women can have them, why not men? These celebrations of impending fatherhood have the same concept as a bachelor party / stag night – gather your male friends together. Drink. Go to the casino or have a weekend away, maybe have a lap dance or two and cherish your last moments of not having a kid.
Dadchelor parties have taken off in the last year or two and are a response to changes in parenting norms. Compared to previous generations, men are now taking a much more active role in bringing up the baby. Now, it's a shared responsibility. So its not surprising that men can be so overwhelmed by the thought of how much their lives are going to change that they need one last blast of freedom.
Also because couples are having their first child later in life, unlike their parents they have had more time to enjoy child free adult life. They have got used to sleep, and alone time, and panic at the thought of losing those luxuries.
